The overall composition is important as I explore the portrait. I want the viewer to really feel my work and to experience their own truth within it. Transcending the photo or when painting from life , I go beyond just trying to copy what I see but pull from that through my mark making and color choices. I become more the poet rather than the novelist in telling their stories.
