Ashby Michele

My artistic approach is rooted in portraiture, exploring the connection between emotion, gaze and stillness. Working primarily in pastel and with a love of realism, I move between striking black and white studies and more expressive colour portraits, using a limited palette to create depth, mood and atmosphere. I am drawn to the quiet moments that reveal something of the person behind the face, while embracing the marks, textures and spontaneity of the pastel medium.
