It is during my walks in nature that I draw my inspiration.
Influenced by the Impressionists, I let myself be guided by a ray of light on the trees, a shadow along a path, a field or vineyard, to find my subject—constantly renewed with each season.
I set up my easel and paint outdoors, or otherwise from my own photographs.
I start by choosing the framing, then make a quick sketch to check tonal values and composition, followed by an underpainting, wet or dry, and gradually build up with successive layers of pastel.
The immediacy of pastel allows me to quickly capture what I feel—a meditative process through which I strive to convey my emotions.
